How To Find And Use Minecraft Flint

Here is everything you need to know about finding and using flint in Minecraft. By S.E. Doster on August 5, 2025 at 8:26AM PDT Flint is a vital crafting component for your survival in Minecraft, especially if you're looking to make arrows or flint and steel. In this guide, we'll show you the best ways to find and stock up on flint in Minecraft. The best way to get flint is to simply mine for it. You can even use your hands for this, but you'll want a shovel to make mining more efficient. Mining a block of gravel gives a 10% chance for a single piece of flint to drop instead. The gravel block will look like the image above. Luckily, gravel is pretty easy to find in the early stages of your game. This is a block that can be found at most levels of the game. Best places to quickly find gravel: You'll want to be mindful of mining any gravel above you. This is one of the few blocks that respects gravity and will drop on your head and kill you. It's also recommended to use the Fortune enchantment on your tool to maximize how much flint you'll receive from mining the gravel. Mining for flint is going to be the fastest way to get the resource. However, it's worth checking any chests you find in the game. Chests inside villages, especially ones with a Fletcher, have a chance of having flint inside. Ruined portals spawn throughout the world, and the chests at these locations can also potentially include flint. An example of a ruined portal can be seen in the image above. As you play, you'll eventually build up a good stockpile. This makes Flint a nice resource to trade for emeralds. Villagers who are Fletchers, Leatherworkers, Toolsmiths, and Weaponsmiths will offer trades that use flint. These trades can range from 26 to 30 flint for a single emerald. Flint is currently used in three different crafting recipes, and two of these will be vital to your survival. You'll want to craft plenty of arrows for ranged combat, and flint and steel is needed to make fire. The Fletching Table is something you won't need right away, but it could be useful in the future, as this table allows you to turn an unemployed villager into a Fletcher.
